The Impact of Mindfulness on Memory and Mortality
Challenging people's memory makes them remember better when it matters. A study in a nursing home showed that a simple intervention of making remembering matter resulted in improved memory retention and significantly lower mortality rates compared to the control groups. Mindfulness, as studied, is about the simple act of noticing. Engaging mindfully in tasks also leads to them being more preferred and impactful. The key is to stay present, as being mindless disconnects us from engagement and the benefits of mindfulness.
