Taking off the mask and holding it at arms length allows you to see it for what it is and not let it control you. Similarly, with thought diffusion, holding a thought as a fact restricts your perspective. Instead, write down distressing thoughts while acknowledging them as thoughts, not facts. This creates space for considering other perspectives.
