Personal empowerment is essential for making meaningful changes in life. Individuals need to prioritize self-care and choose engagements, whether in relationships or careers, that genuinely fulfill them. When feeling stagnant or uninspired, re-evaluating one's circumstances and being open to change—such as relocating—can be transformative. It’s critical to recognize that joy in our lives is a choice and that we hold the power to pursue it. The analogy of securing oxygen masks on airplanes illustrates that self-care allows us to care for others effectively. By focusing on ourselves first, we can gradually expand our capacity to support our immediate family and community. Practicing meta-meditation emphasizes building a strong foundation of self-love and kindness, starting with personal well-being and widening the circle of compassion over time. Living with intention and making conscious choices elevate our experiences; conversely, complacency leads to a life lived on autopilot. Embracing a growth mindset encourages experimentation and resilience, allowing individuals to approach challenges with the notion that they simply have not yet achieved something rather than dismissing their capability completely. This shift in perspective fuels personal development and opens doors to new possibilities.
Today’s guest has worked with a huge variety of different artists and is named on Time magazine’s list of the ‘100 most influential people in the world’. But I think one of the reasons he’s reached an almost mythical status across the world is because of his Zen-like manner and his artistic approach to life.
Feel Better Live More Bitesize is my weekly podcast for your mind, body, and heart. Each week I’ll be featuring inspirational stories and practical tips from some of my former guests.
Today’s clip is from episode 327 of the podcast with none other than the legendary record producer and author of the book The Creative Act, Mr Rick Rubin.
In this clip, Rick shares why it’s easy to get stuck in our small story of who we are and what our lives are. But he believes that we all have the power to change the stories we tell ourselves, which is ultimately essential for our happiness.
