When clients ask if they're too much for the therapist
Therapists can draw on their spiritual beliefs to access a greater resource beyond themselves when helping overwhelmed clients. Clients often feel they are too much for their therapists, reflecting on the overwhelming nature of their lives. To reassure clients, therapists can convey that they are not the ultimate source of support, but rather a conduit for a greater resource. It is important for therapists to have comforting and meaningful items in their workspace to counterbalance the darkness and harshness present in the stories shared by clients.
