#291 — Where is Happiness?
Making Sense with Sam Harris

True happiness is not found in external comparisons and immediate gratification
The pursuit of happiness through external measures like money, power, pleasure, and fame, as well as comparing oneself to others, does not lead to true happiness. Mother nature has different goals for individuals, and the human desire for happiness is not aligned with these goals. Seeking immediate gratification and relying on external validation may provide temporary rewards but does not lead to ultimate happiness. It is important to recognize that evolutionary imperatives do not prioritize individual happiness, and teachings from various spiritual traditions caution against pursuing momentary pleasures as a way of life. Taking charge of one's emotions and not letting feelings dictate actions is emphasized as a more mindful way to live.
