Exercise-Induced Glucose Spikes Are Physiological, Not Problematic
Intense exercise, such as high-intensity interval training or power lifting, can cause sharp increases in blood glucose levels, even in fasted individuals. This phenomenon occurs due to the release of stress hormones like catecholamines and cortisol, which signal the liver to release glycogen into the bloodstream to provide energy for the muscles. Research has not established that these glucose spikes associated with intense physical activity are harmful to overall health.
