To establish a new habit successfully, one must understand the reward system. If the brain does not naturally provide a reward, it is important to create one. Initially, providing external rewards such as a small piece of chocolate after exercising can jumpstart the process. Over time, the brain will associate the habit with feeling good, turning the habit itself into a reward. However, as the reward may become less fulfilling, it is crucial to introduce new forms of rewards to sustain the habit. Understanding the cues that trigger habits is vital, usually falling into categories such as time of day, place, people, emotions, or preceding rituals.
