Being mindful of using gendered language is crucial to avoid diminishing a woman's presence. Language that refers to females as less than, such as calling a woman a 'girl' in the workplace, undermines their belonging. It is important to steer clear of phrases that may be perceived as diminishing or negative towards women, such as 'easy my mom can understand' or 'throw like a girl'. Recognizing the power of words and following the rule of treating women with the same respect as men can help create a more inclusive and equal environment.
Today, we hear from Angelique Bellmer Krembs, global head of brand at BlackRock, about the micro-offenses women encounter in the workplace and what we can do to dismantle them.
