To achieve muscle hypertrophy (big muscles), focus on achieving mechanical tension during your working set by training to failure or close to it. Contrary to popular belief, you don't need a high volume of training. Using lighter weights requires more reps, but with heavier weights, you can achieve hypertrophy with just five to six reps.
