NOTE

Insulin-dependent glucose transport

Insulin resistance occurs when cells become resistant to the effect of insulin, requiring increasing amounts of insulin to trigger glucose transport. This is caused by the accumulation of fat in muscle cells, interrupting the signaling process. The early marker of insulin resistance is not an increase in glucose levels.
