The reward phase after intense focus helps the brain become more comfortable with focus, enjoyment, and integrates the consolidation process in the diffuse mode. Engaging in active activities during breaks is preferable as it gives the brain the needed rest compared to continuing with mentally taxing tasks like browsing social media.
