Omega-3 Deficiency and the Development of Parkinson's and Dementia

In the 1960s, even though people were aware of the importance of B12 and took supplements, some individuals developed Parkinson's or dementia not due to B12 deficiency. Most dementia in the standard American diet is caused by lack of phytochemicals, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity. However, these individuals had excellent diets and good nutrient levels. The main gap was likely the lack of omega-3, specifically DHA EPA found in fish.
