558. The Facts Are In: Two Parents Are Better Than One

Freakonomics Radio

NOTE

The Policy Prescription for Single Parents

In my book, I suggest restoring the norm of two parent homes for children as a remedy. Many social scientists agree with the data showing inequality, but some argue for supporting single parents instead. I reject that response because the evidence favors two parent families. It's not a moral argument, but an empirical one. Government transfers and community programs cannot fully compensate for an absent parent.
