Having a low LDL cholesterol level in the mid-50s to 60s can double the odds of dying over the next 10 years compared to having an LDL level between 100-160 mg/dL. Contrary to popular belief, a wide LDL cholesterol range of 100-189 mg/dL is associated with the lowest risk of long-term mortality among individuals aged 50-89 without diabetes who are not on statin therapy.
