NOTE

Set Point Theory in Obesity

Leptin, a hormone produced by fat tissue in proportion to its mass, is used by the brain to regulate body fatness. The system is more effective at preventing weight loss than weight gain over time, leading to weight gain. As individuals gain weight and develop obesity, the defended level of fat mass, or set point, increases. The system then regulates around the higher fat mass, making weight loss challenging. This phenomenon likely contributes to weight regain over time.
