Copywork is a method of learning how to write by copying the work of great writers, similar to how musicians learn to play instruments. By studying the texture and patterns of great writing, even if it is not to be emulated, one can develop their own writing voice. Sam Parr spent months doing copywork, where he would copy the best sales letters by hand for an hour or two a day. He believes this is the best way to learn how to write. Even now, he still practices copywork by spending a few minutes copying passages from books he likes before he has to write. He finds inspiration from authors who approached the keyboard with boldness and emulates their style in his own work.
