The Power of Rhyme and Rhythm in Persuasion
Rhyme and rhythm play a significant role in persuasion, as things that rhyme tend to make more sense and be more memorable. However, this feature is often misused by self-help influencers who use clever catchphrases that sound good but lack substance. Our brains tend to confuse fluency with accuracy, perceiving rhyming statements as more reliable even if they lack basis. When used effectively, rhyming and poetic symmetry can enhance the impact of a message. Conversely, if used to disguise poor thinking or sloganism, rhyming can make something unimpressive seem persuasive. Ultimately, rhyming has the power to make a message more impactful, whether it is sound or unsound.
