The Enlightenment and Montaigne: Challenging Traditional Beliefs
The Enlightenment, particularly Montaigne's philosophy, highlights the realization that much of what we believed to be natural law or divine truth was actually a result of historical circumstance. This moment in history marked the beginning of the disenchantment of the world, leading to experimentation and personal liberation but also social disruption. Montaigne's fascination with being naked symbolizes the idea that true authenticity is hindered by societal expectations. While some may see this change as a disenchantment, I offer a different perspective.
