People tend to focus on things that make them anxious or upset because struggling against them gives a sense of control. Instead of moving beyond these anxieties, individuals choose to fight them, as it provides a feeling of self-control. When lacking a strong sense of meaning in life, people tend to find smaller things to struggle against. Constantly complaining or engaging in battles with adversaries may signify a lack of substantial purpose in life, prompting individuals to seek activities that bring meaning rather than fighting their fears and anxieties.
