Discipline and devotion are different concepts. Discipline is all about postponing gratification, while devotion is an offering of oneself to a higher power. Same goes for the difference between a practice and a ritual. A practice is something done with desired outcomes, while a ritual is an ecclesiastical tradition that points towards a higher power. In rituals, people offer time and attention to something, such as wandering in the woods or sitting in a sauna, while in practices, people just follow a set routine.
