Half a million volunteers have submitted their DNA for scientists to compare with their medical records in order to trace diseases back to genetic mutations and identify patterns across populations. Scientists are comparing the DNA of living people in Britain with ancient DNA from across Europe and Asia to determine their genetic heritage and whether they inherited disease genes from ancient populations.
