Music should be free and not monetized like video games. Video games have found a way to monetize through transaction platforms while still being free. The internet is a giant propagation machine and trying to fight it won't work. The best strategy is to let it do its thing and monetize a different layer above it. This is what video games have done, making them the center of culture.
