Alcohol and the risk of cancer
Research on the impacts of low-risk drinking has gone back and forth, with earlier studies suggesting some health benefits. However, newer studies have revealed that any amount of alcohol is associated with an increased risk of cancer, especially breast cancer. The molecule of alcohol can increase cancer risk through various mechanisms, such as impacting hormone levels in breast cancer or causing changes in the liver and gut region for other types of cancer.
