NOTE

The Evolution of the Meaning of Science in English Language

Words in English are treacherous as they attempt to embody universal and constant concepts. The word 'science' did not have the same meaning before the 19th century as it does today. In the 19th century, 'science' could mean the study of Aristotle, and it was essentially what religion isn't. Science, as understood today, emerged as a way of understanding the world without depending on revelation or supernatural understanding, and is linked to Christianity, making it impossible to imagine science without Christianity. Therefore, science is bred of a specifically Christian culture and emerged in a Christian context in the 19th century in English.
