Your brain dislikes uncertainty and finds moments of emotional uncertainty more painful than physical pain. We often prefer a guaranteed outcome, even if it means receiving a shock. This is why we overwork, overthink, and overperform to eliminate uncertainty. However, the opposite of uncertainty is not certainty. We should have reverence for the things that provoke emotional uncertainty and understand how they can affect us.
