Creating an Ecosystem of Freedom: Building Libraries in Angola

Returning to Angola prison with James, who grew up with friends there, is a powerful moment. The Freedom Library creates an ecosystem connecting everyone involved, from the leader to team members, incarcerated individuals, and prison staff. Building libraries benefits both housing units and staff. Despite negative experiences with CEOs, interactions with staff also led to transformative experiences. Getting a job at the low library at a young age was possible because the staff believed in giving chances. Challenging the librarian's book choices helped form a connection that ultimately led to becoming a lawyer.
