Tensions and the creation of a common container spec
The Open Container Initiative (OCI) was created as a response to tensions between Docker and CoreOS. CoreOS proposed an open specification for running containers, while Docker had its own approach. This caused concerns in the industry, leading to the formation of OCI. Its goal was to establish a common specification for containers. The OCI developed runtime and image specifications, which allowed for standardized containerization. This standardization enabled compatibility between Docker and container D. Rocket, another containerizer, existed but is no longer actively maintained, with only a few remaining users, including a car rental company called Blah blah car. Technology evolves, and deprecated technologies can still be in use by some organizations.
