The Power of Avarice in Slavery
Enslavers in Virginia acknowledged slavery violated natural rights but were unable to give it up due to sheer avarice or greed. Even though they recognized the immorality of slavery, they were drawn to the lifestyle it afforded them. This conflict between their moral principles and desire for convenience led them to betray classical principles and continue owning slaves.
