The form of resistance exercise can vary, and it doesn't have to involve lifting heavy weights. The goal of resistance training is to create an adaptation, which can be achieved through various methods such as using body weight, bands, kettlebells, or dumbbells. Resistance training is essential for maintaining skeletal muscle, and it is crucial for body composition. It's possible to achieve muscle strength and size, as well as muscular endurance, without lifting heavy weights. Starting with three days a week and 10 sets per muscle group is recommended, and high rep ranges above 12 are also effective. Despite the negative associations some people have with exercise, resistance training is non-negotiable for achieving fitness and maintaining muscle.
