NOTE

Optimizing for Head Count and Velocity in Venture Bets

When making bets in venture, it's important to consider the sizing of bets in relation to the budget and head count. The constraint is the time allocation of the head count, and the team can typically ship about 10 experiments per quarter per person. With a team of 10-15 people, this results in around 200 experiments per quarter, leading to approximately 10-15 solid wins. Therefore, the optimization should be based on head count and velocity rather than budget. One of the biggest hiring mistakes mentioned was hiring a senior individual based on their track record and seniority, only to find that their commitment to going back to early stage work did not materialize.
