NOTE

Aristotle's concept of Akrasia: Weakness of the will or incontinence

Before addiction had a name, people tried to make sense of it through different perspectives. Aristotle had a unique way of describing self-control problems called acrosia, meaning a weakness of the will or incontinence. It refers to knowingly doing something harmful despite being fully aware of the consequences. For example, someone may resolve not to drink for the night, knowing they need to cut down, but still give in to temptation.
