Xylitol: A Powerful Tool for Oral Health

Xylitol, an artificial sugar, is a potent tool for oral health as it prevents the bacteria streptococcus mutans from releasing acid that damages teeth and causes cavities. When streptococcus mutans consumes xylitol, it can't produce acid and gets killed. Additionally, xylitol inhibits the growth and proliferation of streptococcus mutans, reducing the formation of biofilm on teeth. Furthermore, xylitol reduces inflammation in the gum and other soft tissues of the mouth. By using xylitol products like gums or mints after meals, one can significantly improve oral health by inhibiting the growth of cavity-causing bacteria.
