Training the immune system against allergies

The conventional understanding of preventing allergies by avoiding allergenic foods during pregnancy has shifted. Research suggests that exposing pregnant women and infants to potential allergens like peanuts, eggs, and shellfish may help prevent allergies. Allergies occur due to an overreaction of the immune system to harmless proteins in foods. By training the immune system to recognize these foods as safe, one can prevent allergies early in life and build a healthy microbiome in infants.
