Separate Opportunity Set from Manager Selection
The key to effective manager selection is to separate the opportunity set from the GP quality. Identifying an opportunity first and then finding a manager to execute the envisioned strategy for that opportunity leads to a more focused manager selection. Opportunity sets should be disaggregated from conversations with managers, as existing managers may not always be suitable for executing certain opportunities. It's important to assess whether managers have the expertise and confidence to take advantage of identified opportunities, and to consider hiring other managers if necessary.
