Peripheral muscle's ability to consume and perfuse oxygen was found to be more crucial in predicting fitness levels than the central cardiovascular system. The study conducted using neurofibro spectroscopy revealed that muscle's oxygen consumption is more related to predicting climbing ability than traditional metrics like treadmill VO2 max test. Individuals with higher aerobic fitness levels were observed to have varied climbing abilities, indicating that cardiovascular fitness is not as significant as peripheral oxygen consumption in determining overall fitness.
