The protests led to the formation of Hamas as a strategic choice for the Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood. Hamas reshaped itself into a resistance group, which includes both violent and non-violent means. Palestinians believe that all means of resistance are justified against occupation based on international law and resolutions.
The US along with Israel and many of its allies have long considered Hamas a terrorist group. Khaled Al-Hroub, a professor at Northwestern University in Qatar, explains how its reputation is a lot murkier among Palestinians, who elected the group to political power in 2006.
