If you're out for more than a week, it's best to restart the mezzo. Even if you're in the middle of a training block, starting over is important. Getting sick can actually be a good thing, as it forces your body to rest. Many people never deload properly, but they end up taking unintentional rest periods due to sickness or injury. It's better to be cautious and take extra time off than to push too hard and get even more sick or injured. Starting a training block feeling refreshed is much better than starting out feeling obligated. And remember, extending a deload doesn't mean you're weak, it just means you're being smart.
