NOTE

Pleasure vs. Happiness

The reason for our unhappiness is the substitution of pleasure for happiness. Pleasure is short-lived and visceral, while happiness is long-lived and felt above the neck. Pleasure is self-centered, taking, and can be achieved alone through substances or addictive behaviors. In contrast, happiness is giving, experienced in social groups, and cannot be achieved with substances. The extremes of pleasure lead to addiction, whether through substances like cocaine, amphetamine, and alcohol, or behaviors like shopping, gambling, social media, and pornography.
