NOTE

**Why did Britain’s New France side with the British **

New France in Canada sided with the British during the American Revolution because the French Canadians, who were the majority and Catholics, were mollified by British support for their language, religion, and legal system. This support alienated the 13 colonies, which were against Catholicism. The French Canadians viewed the British Empire as a known entity, preferable to the Protestant colonists to the south, whom they feared more.
