Executive function skills are significantly more predictive of success and school readiness than basic reading or math skills at an entry level. These skills are as predictive as IQ and socioeconomic status in determining academic and life success. A study conducted in Needon, New Zealand, following a thousand children until they were 32 years old found executive function skills, especially self-control, to be predictive of both health and wealth outcomes.
