Authoritative parenting leads to successful, emotionally well-balanced children who eventually develop closeness with their parents. Permissive parenting and surveillance parenting, the latter being predominant today, have negative outcomes. Surveillance parenting involves constant monitoring of children, interfering in their interactions, but lacking authority or setting boundaries. This parenting style undermines the child's independence and self-confidence. Social/emotional learning in schools is a long-standing project focused on developing children's emotional intelligence for over 15 years.
