The 2018 United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report highlighted the dire consequences of allowing global temperatures to rise. The report emphasized that limiting the temperature increase to one and a half degrees Celsius was crucial, as a two-degree increase would lead to catastrophic outcomes. The difference between these two scenarios could mean the destruction of 70% to 99% of coral reefs, as well as the disappearance of ice caps and drastic rises in sea levels.
