The Role of Hormones & Solar Patterns in Global Cycles of Culture & History w/Roy Barzilai

One of the things we underestimate is the interconnectedness of our global habits, behaviors and phases in culture with hormones like testosterone and dopamine. How can we map The Age of Enlightenment, The Great Depression, and even the progressive virus we see today alongside the solar patterns and hormone levels? Is there a solution to this? On this episode, I’m joined by researcher, author and independent scholar, Roy Barzilai who shares on a very overlooked field of study that is vital to understanding our society and the challenges we’re facing. If we neglect or abandon the science of hormones and solar cycles and how it shapes our history, character and personality, we will remain impotent to doing anything about it. -Roy Barzilai   Four Takeaways The problem in our society today is that we take a reductionist approach to science and fields of study. Not integrating these fields puts us at a disadvantage. The Age of Enlightenment was connected to more solar activity. As a result there was more energy, higher fertility and birth rates. People were more reasoning and independent. The ebb and tide of human culture and history is driven by the connection between hormonal cycles and solar cycles. The decline in testosterone actually leads to more violence, imbalances and instability in the masculine ideal. At the start of the show, Roy shared on his background and how taking a reductionist approach has destroyed the scientific establishment. Next, we talked about the cycles of history and why hormones play such a huge role in that. We also discussed how bad the next economic crash will be, and the link between increased addiction and low numbers of mood hormones.   We also discussed; The connection between solar activity and the Independence of man How we’ve gone from an age of enlightenment to anti-reason How mental health manifests in male and female brains   We have a lack of hormonal balance in our society which is causing massive and far reaching issues in how we relate to each other, and how the world functions as a whole. In the past, increased solar activity increased enlightenment because of rising testosterone, serotonin and dopamine. Now the opposite is happening. With declining rates in mood hormones there isn’t much to motivate and make us happy. This doesn’t mean it out of our control though, we have to pay attention to these patterns to know how to change them. Guest Bio- Roy Barzilai is an independent scholar, researcher and author of Sex Wars - How Hormones Drive Gender, Race, & Culture Conflicts and two other books. By exploring the intellectual history of Western civilization, Roy seeks to reach a greater understanding of the human mind. As a financial analyst for more than a decade, Roy became aware of the herd mentality in financial markets. He studied the Wave Principle of Human Social Behavior and the new science of Socionomics, focusing on how change in social mood affects society, its ideas, philosophy, culture, and economy. How Becoming Devotional, Quitting Alcohol & Getting Optimized Changed Our Lives w/Adam Lamb

From not optimizing ourselves, to drinking alcohol and not being devotional, there are so many things blocking our consciousness as a society. How does drinking block our own self-awareness and personal development? What is causing so many people to be disenchanted, depressed and anxious? On this episode, I’m joined by my good friend, author of the Better Than The Binge, and founder of Renew Health RX, Adam Lamb, who talks about his journey of quitting alcohol, growing as a person and getting optimized. If you drink to intoxication often, you have a drinking problem. -Adam Lamb   Three Takeaways When we’re younger, all we want is to be older and we tend to attach ourselves to the tangible signs of being older, and drinking is one of them. Unfortunately this has led to major issues with alcohol in our society. The pretty pictures you see on Instagram of perfect lives are just the results or even a lie about their lives. They aren’t the hard work, the uncomfortable moments and all the challenges. Proper medicine isn’t treating sick people, it’s keeping healthy people healthy mentally, physically and emotionally and that’s what optimization is.   At the start of the show, Adam shared on his story and his journey, the recent surgery he went through and what caused it. We talked about why so many people in America aren’t devotional, and the importance of having faith and believing in something. We also discussed how social drinking is one of the biggest issues we have in modern society. Towards the end, we talked about hormone optimization, the importance of client follow up and how pharma and insurance have meddled and messed things up.   We also discussed; The crisis in young men and the lack of physicality and masculine bonding What Adam has learned about life through his marriage How being parents changed us The importance of health forward therapy   A lot of people in this world have so much anxiety, disenchantment, despair and self-destruction because they have misunderstanding of life and how it works. The good things in our lives; the success, the happiness and the health takes hard work, it doesn’t happen instantly. And when we rely on things like alcohol, unhealthy habits and being in denial about our need to delve into the devotional, we just delay our own progress and success. When we fix these things, that’s when we truly become free, and get the best results in our lives.   Guest Bio- Adam is the founder of Renew Life Rx, and the author of Better Than the Binge: Eliminate Alcohol From Your Life. Why It's Critical to Create Longitudinal Data Points for Biomarkers w/Dr. Catherine Johnson

One of the biggest issues we have in healthcare is the lack of knowledge around the biomarkers as people age. How can we solve this by taking a more integrative approach? Will we ever get to the mass consciousness that testosterone is good? What is wrong with the over-protocolization of healthcare? On this episode, I’m joined by Director and founder of Precision Medical Care, Dr. Catherine Johnson to talk about how to help people get back to balanced health and the practical steps it will take us to get there. If you over-protocalize and you don’t take a precision approach, you will lose validity to care and you will see errors. -Dr. Catherine Johnson   Three Takeaways Longitudinal data point for biomarkers: if we know where someone’s biomarkers were in the past and there’s a drastic change, we can find the root cause quicker and solve the root issue. Because we’ve lost balance when it comes to health, people’s opinions have become split and that’s a major reason for the demonization of hormones. You will save money when you go to the right doctor because they will start low go slow and see what you need. The wrong doctor will mess you around as they try to figure out what you need. At the start of the show, Dr. Catherine shared how she got started and why she made the change from emergency medicine to precision medicine. She talked about how chronic disease manifests when people aren’t taking care of themselves. We talked about how the Baby Boomers have been so influenced by popular media, and how that impacts their health negatively. We then talked about the importance of teaching young people about their biomarkers. Dr. Catherine also talked about her her Precision Testosterone Optimized Therapy.     We also discussed; The biggest issue we face in optimization Why and how the sick care system is lashing out   The risk of going too high, too fast with hormone optimization therapy To help our society heal and get better, we have to take a very integrated approach and it starts with teaching young people about the biomarkers for good health. That includes tracking things like skeletal muscle mass, blood pressure, testosterone and other hormones, lipid profile, vitamins and other vital details. We must define what the biomarkers are for an optimal health span at every age so that we end up with longitudinal data points. That way we can find the stressor, and remove the contributing factors before it’s too late.

Treat the Patient, Not The Lab Measurement Numbers w/Scott Otey & John Fogerty from Summit Rejuvenation Centers

Many patients and even physicians are so hung up on getting to what they consider the perfect testosterone number that they miss the whole point: wellness. What is driving doctors’ obsession with the number, and why does it have a lot to do with insurance? Why are AIs harmful to optimized patients? Why is patient feedback so crucial? On this episode, I’m joined by the co-founders of Summit Rejuvenation Centers, Scott Otey & John Fogerty, to talk about how they are blazing the trail in optimization.   You can’t make your patients feel good when you’re billing them through insurance because you can’t even get them to an optimized level. -John Fogerty   Three Takeaways In the absence of any symptoms or side effects, stay on the same course of treatment. Don’t use numbers to determine the action that needs to be taken. The best people in optimization are able to bridge the bodybuilding, performance, and fitness world with the clinical science. It’s so crucial to document and do case studies that demonstrate and support our treatment protocols and how they are working. It will protect us legally. Even if you use AIs for symptom resolution for people who over-aromatize, it still causes harm.   At the start of the show, Scott and John shared their backstory and how they got started. Next we talked about the problem with testosterone pellet therapy, and why it’s impossible to titrate the dosage effectively with the delivery system. We discussed why traditional therapies just aren’t making sense anymore, the harm that comes with suppressing estrogen, and how this shows up in the health issues a lot of bodybuilders face.   We also discussed: The importance of treating on symptoms and feedback, not numbers How hard is it for women to get access to quality hormone optimization therapy   The power of bridging the gap between fitness and clinical science Why you can’t really help patients when you’re under insurance   So many men are trained on an understanding that there’s a number that corresponds to a level of happiness and acceptance, and this is driven by most non-optimization doctors. Doctors who are in the mainstream can’t really help their patients because insurance puts so much red tape on them. Therefore they feel like they are better off not treating people because they don’t want to end up losing the money they get from patients. Ultimately this drives men to be focused on their numbers and not their symptoms. This dooms them to stay in this tailspin until they work with an optimization physician who knows what they’re doing.

How to Bring the Correct Treatment of TBI into Mainstream Healthcare w/Dr. Mark Gordon & Andrew Marr

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) are systemic in our society, and many military and law enforcement service personnel are suffering because of it. To make things worse, the mainstream medical system just doesn’t treat these people correctly. What misconceptions are getting the way of these men and women getting the treatment they deserve? What changes need to happen in mainstream culture to better respond to these issues? On this episode, I’m honored to be joined by my good friends Dr. Mark Gordon and Andrew Marr from the Warrior Angel’s Foundation to answer these questions and more. TBI stems from the trauma, the inflammatory mechanism, and the down regulation of the brain hormones. If we can mitigate or modulate that, we have a real viable solution. -Andrew Marr   Three Takeaways The biggest problem we have is TBI being erroneously diagnosed as a psychological issue and not a brain chemistry one. The mainstream market isn’t driven by a desire to improve their quality of health but to make money off PTSD patients. We look at testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone as reproductive, gender or sex hormones, but each of them has a whole other spectrum of benefits in the body.   At the start of the show, we talked about how erroneously labelling TBI as PTSD has been a setback for TBI treatment. We also discussed whether sick care would ever change this and what it would take to make that happen. Andrew shared on the upcoming documentary he’s working on and Dr. Gordon shared on the upcoming event they are running.   We also discussed: How to produce superior patient outcomes The recent Psychology Today article Andrew is proud of Why this is the age of interventional endocrinology   If TBI is treated as a psychological problem by pumping SSRI medication into patients, it just won’t solve anything. What causes TBI is the effect of trauma which disrupts the chemistry in the brain by creating inflammation, and this inflammation stops important chemicals in the brain from doing their jobs. The true solution to the issue is hormonal and chemical. Sick care is just throwing a band aid on everything with drugs instead of looking at the core ideology of the issue. Until that’s corrected, the masses can’t be healed.   Guest Bio- Dr. Gordon is the Medical Director of Millennium Health Centers, Inc. - Medicine for the 21st century, in Encino, California. Dr. Gordon has been a consultant to the Medical Board of California in Endocrinology, Internal Medicine, and Alternative Medicine (1998 - present). Dr. Gordon's work has been featured by many major publications, including ESPN and Life Extension magazine. In early 2015, the Warrior Angels Foundation and Dr. Gordon teamed up to continue the fight against the status quo, and to disrupt and change the TBI patient care protocol for Veterans.   Andrew Marr is a Special Forces Green Beret, Co-Founder of Warrior Angels Foundation, and author of TALES FROM THE BLAST FACTORY: A Brain Injured Special Forces Green Beret's Journey Back From The Brink. The Use and Benefits of Micro-Point Stimulation w/Kelly Armstrong

When the human body experiences different types of trauma it results in various types of scars, and these can actually impede health and performance. One of the most common modalities to healing these traumas is the application of microcurrents, but not all these modalities are created equal. What is the Dolphin Neurostim and what are its benefits? Why is it so much better than the electronic healing pads sold all over the place? How does it aid in healing and pain management? On this episode, I’m joined by master pain practitioner and pain management specialist, Kelly Armstrong, to talk about this awesome device and all its capabilities. Not only can the Dolphin relieve pain, it can also empower the nervous system to work better. -Kelly Armstrong     Takeaways Micropoint stimulation (MPS) is an integrative mixture of a lot of different therapies that look at the body from a different perspective. You have to treat the whole body and treat all of the traumas for the body to actually heal. The Dolphin Neurostim has a tip applicator or a point which functions like a non-invasive needle, and gives you the same outcomes when used to treat acupuncture points. Electronic healing pads actually lower muscle oxygenation and recovery. When you treat the body with the microcurrent, it is actually changing and improving the health of the tissue. This will decrease pain and increase movement.     At the start of the show, Kelly talked about the importance of healing and treating the body as a whole, and why past traumas need to be looked at as much as new ones. Next, Kelly shared on how the Dolphin Neurostim works, and the multiple benefits the device has. We also talked about scars and how they impede health, vitality and performance; as well as how the microcurrent helps prevent accidents and injuries in athletes. Kelly also shared on battlefield acupuncture and how it works.   We also discussed: The Dolphin vs. the healing pads we see in malls and drugstores How the Dolphin helps athletes recover and regulate Using the Dolphin to reduce delayed muscle soreness from training How military professionals can use the Dolphin   Not all electronic modalities benefit the nervous system or heal the body’s traumas. The Dolphin Neurostim is special because it performs multiple functions that are vital to the body’s healing. Its direct current mimics our own body’s energy, and the microcurrent works at a cellular level which helps cells create more protein synthesis and reestablish a more normal cellular membrane. As we age, we accumulate scars and traumas, and stress can prevent our healing. If we use the right tool, we can heal and improve our vitality to strengthen us and make our bodies more resilient. Training & Diet Protocols for the Aging Athlete w/Scott Mendelson

As we age and our bodies change, the ways we eat and train have to change, too. How do you encourage advanced hypertrophy, and how often should you be switching up your exercises and movements? Why do food intolerances become more of an issue as we age, and how can we combat this? On this episode, I’m joined by Infinity Fitness founder Scott Mendelsohn to talk about the factors that impede progress in muscle growth for older athletes and how to avoid them.   You have to shift from doing a lot of volume to higher intensity and less volume. -Scott Mendelsohn   Three Takeaways People who are advanced in their training require fresh stimuli because their muscle memory is so much higher.   You should be switching up your movements and even overhauling your exercises every 6 weeks, but also changing things like timing of reps, tempo, rest periods more regularly.   Eating clean is not enough to maximize muscle growth and quality of life. You also need to rotate foods, and macro-nutrient cycles   At the start of the show, we talked about advanced hypertrophy and training protocols for aging lifters. Next, we talked about the importance of switching things up in your workouts, how to actually do it and how often. We talked about what causes people not to focus on a workout program and whether this is a genetic trait. Scott also shared on the necessity of switching up your macro-nutrient cycles.   We also discussed: Why aging athletes need regular fresh stimuli Why overtraining is more psychological than physiological Nutritional sensitivity tests and why they are so important   If you’ve been training for decades, it’s critical that you constantly supply your body with fresh training stimuli through new exercises and routines within your day-to-day workouts. It isn’t just about changing things up in the gym though. It’s also important to think about what’s on your plate. A lot of health issues stem from food intolerances and allergies brought on by eating the same things over and over again. Even if you’re eating clean, you still may not  get the results you want. Learn to change the amounts of carbs, dietary fats, and proteins on certain days, and invest in eating plans that rotate foods. Whether it’s training or diet, the methods you employ should give you a return on your investment, and give you the confidence that you are doing your very best to take care of your body.   Guest Bio- Scott is the author of the 100% Fitness Solution eBook and Director of Infinity Fitness. He is a highly regarded performance nutrition and training specialist. How to Help Chemically Castrated Women Get Their Health Back w/Victoria Felkar

Women’s health has been neglected and filled with myths and ignorance since the beginning of endocrinology. Why is progesterone one of the most underestimated and misunderstood hormones, and what are its uses? How has birth control destroyed the health of both men and women? How can we help chemically castrated women get access to lifesaving healthcare? On this episode, I talk with health practitioner, consultant, author, and educator, Victoria Felkar about what’s getting in the way of the help women need and what can be done about it.   The more you screw with hormones earlier in life, the more you’re setting yourself up for difficulty later on— but the salvation is in lifestyle. -Victoria Felkar   Three Takeaways Progesterone is a wonder drug for perimenopausal women but it’s heavily maligned for no reason. An athlete’s body in performance mode is under immense stress, and harm reduction needs to be prioritized so they can recover. Hormones are a huge part of that. Many people, even doctors, conflate progesterone (which has so many benefits) with progestin (which has done a lot of harm) and this is what is making so many women suffer.   Women’s periods are getting heavier, and a lot more of them are suffering from pain and conditions like endometriosis. Medication and birth control don’t solve the problems, and that’s why we need to get to root causes.   At the start of the show, we talked about why women’s endocrinology is handled so badly, and the double standards that causes this. Next we talked about the connection between hormones and sport, and how the stigma was born. We discussed how hormones are used at the elite levels of sport and how birth control is destroying us. We also talked about the alarming warning signs about menstrual cycles that we shouldn't ignore.   We also discussed: Why progesterone is a wonder hormone How hormones can be used as tools, not crutches The commonality of performance enhancement in sport The importance of tracking your hormonal bio-feedback   So many women are suffering because hormones like progesterone have been so maligned. At the same time, birth control pills have been misused and abused. The truth is, the more you screw with hormones earlier on in life through birth control, fertility drugs, and other substances, the more intense the issues will be later on in life. Lifestyle is actually a very important part of women’s reproductive health, not the manipulation of menstrual cycles we are seeing today. If you have lower rates of stress, you’re going to improve your reproductive health. The woman’s body has its own built in clock, and it’s like a symphony that requires all the instruments. If we start manipulating or removing some parts, there’s no telling how bad the impact will be, and we’re definitely starting to see the negative downstream effects now.   Guest Bio- Victoria is a practitioner, consultant, author, and educator within the world of strength and fitness. Therapeutic Testosterone Myths and Misconceptions- Part 2 w/ Dr. Scott Howell and Dr. Keith Nichols

Therapeutic testosterone has been plagued by myths and misunderstandings for years, including the effectiveness of natural testosterone boosters, the necessity of blood donation, and pellets being a worthy delivery system. How and why are all these things untrue? How has all this bad information wrongly informed FDA rulings and decisions? This episode is a continuation of my conversation with Dr. Keith Nichols and Dr. Scott Howell about the biggest myths and misconceptions about therapeutic testosterone. In this session we talk about FDA mandates, whether testosterone leads to polycythemia vera, and many other myths.   If the FDA had looked at the totality of the evidence, their decision would have been clear. -Dr. Scott Howell     Three Takeaways Quality of life is a fundamental that needs to be checked when clients are being treated. Doctors who are against testosterone optimization aren’t optimized themselves, don’t stay current with the research, and weren’t trained properly on how to interpret the data. You only need to therapeutically donate blood as an intervention if the hematocrit is too high in reference to your normal values. At the start of the show, we talked about the black box warnings placed on testosterone packets by the FDA and why the basis of this mandate unethical. Next, we talked about natural testosterone boosters vs. pharmaceutical bioidentical testosterone, the value of pellet testosterone therapy as a delivery system, and why polycythemia vera is more genetics-based than it is related to testosterone.     We also discussed: How doctors views on TOT are influenced by their training (or lack thereof) Testosterone and blood-cholesterol levels Why doctors confuse erythrocytosis and polycythemia vera   The biggest issue we have when it comes to testosterone and the myths and so-called controversies surrounding it are the way it’s studied and the people studying it. If mandates are being made based on a couple of studies and negative media reports, that isn’t just inadequate— it is downright unethical. Until the “experts” study the research in totality, whatever decisions are being made are misguided at best, and damaging at worst. We can only overcome this by demanding that physicians and experts stay current with the research and evidence-based medicine. Therapeutic Testosterone Myths and Misconceptions- Part 1 w/ Dr. Scott Howell and Dr. Keith Nichols

Therapeutic testosterone has been plagued by myths and misunderstanding. How is this a result of the way data is interpreted? Do men need to block estrogen when undergoing hormone optimization? On this episode, I’m joined by Dr. Keith Nichols and one of the leading androgen researchers in the world, Dr. Scott Howell. Together we go through a list of testosterone myths and discuss the data that completely disproves them. Interpretations of research influences many things, and misinterpretation of data causes problems for a lot of people. -Dr. Scott Howell   Four Takeaways Anytime the ratio of androgen to estrogen is altered, it leads to definite cardio pathology. Even with increased testosterone, lower estrogen levels lead to increased visceral fat, increased subcutaneous fat, decreased cognition, possible depression, and osteoporosis.   Gynecomastia has a lot more to do with having a predisposition to it, not estrogen. If you’ve always had hair and never experienced shedding, testosterone won’t suddenly make your hair fall out. At the start of the show, Dr. Scott shared how he got started and got into research. Next he talked about the importance of interpreting research correctly, and how misinterpretations are at the root of a lot of myths and misconceptions. We talked about testosterone myths including Is whether AIs are necessary, testosterone and prostate cancer, as well as testosterone and gynecomastia. We also talked about one way you can tell if a doctor is actually really clued up on testosterone optimization.     We also discussed; If testosterone is linked to cardiovascular disease Testosterone and androgenic alopecia/follicular shedding The role of “bro science” in testosterone misconceptions We have to get rid of all the locker room bodybuilding subculture pseudoscience that has led to people (even physicians) believing that testosterone is harmful and dangerous. The truth about many of the harms of testosterone is that they aren’t based on the whole population of people who are using it. Things like hair loss, anger problems and gynecomastia have more to with having a predisposed condition and not the use therapeutic testosterone. A lot of the so-called side effects people have come from fundamental, genetic and personality traits.
