Loving Hard to Love People
In this episode, Shelby and Krystal talk about what it looks like to navigate relationships that we have with hard to love people. Rather than avoid every person that irritates or bothers us, how can we lean into the gospel and allow God's love to be reflected in the way we love and serve others?
As we chat through this topic, we will encourage you to remember how Christ loved us when we were "hard to love." We will look at Scripture to see how we can practically love hard to love people even when it feels impossible. And we will remember that we are dependent on the Spirit to help us love others with the love of Christ.

Changing Unwanted Thoughts w/Esther Smith
This week Krystal chats with Esther Smith about her book, “A Still and Quiet Mind.” In Esther’s book, she details several strategies for combating a variety of unwanted or intrusive thought patterns. Some of these strategies are simple yet effective, such as slowing down and taking deep breaths. Other strategies include biblical meditation as we reflect on the truths of God and His Word. Ultimately, these strategies remind us of our limited nature and help us to fix our eyes on our wonderful Creator. We pray this conversation provides practical tools while remembering the mighty God that we serve.

Reimagining Productivity and Resisting Hurry w/Jen Pollock Michel
Jen Pollock Michel joins Shelby to chat about her new book In Good Time and why a lot of the productivity advice floating around isn’t necessarily the best advice to take. Jen’s encouragement to resist hurry for the glory of God may be just what you need today. She’s also asking and answering some important questions about the way we manage our schedules. Should our goal be to get the most done? Or should it be to do the right thing in the right way at the right time? Jen tells stories from her own life and exhorts us all to take a step back, take a look at our schedules, and make adjustments so that we can experience an unhurried and peaceful life

How the Gospel Helps Us Make Peace with Our Past
Today’s episode was all about how the gospel helps us to make peace with our past. Our pasts hold a lot for each of us—good memories, sad seasons, hard times, and everything in between. The way we view our past has implications for us in the present and for our future. It can hinder us or help us in our spiritual growth. It can even dictate how you respond to others in times of stress. In this conversation, we talk about the power of the gospel to help us make peace with our past. We hope it is a helpful reminder to cling to Christ in all areas of life.

Unmet Expectations: Gospel Hope for Disappointment in Marriage and Singleness
Since this episode releases on Valentine’s Day, we decided to do something extra special! We have not one but TWO interviews in this special episode! First, we talk with our husbands to discuss what it looks like to honor God and one another in marriage as we navigate unmet expectations. Then, we interviewed Melissa Zaldivar about expectations in singleness.
I know the temptation is to listen to the part that applies to where you are at, but I encourage you to listen to both parts! Chances are if you are single, you have a married friend. If you are married, you likely have a single friend. (If you don’t, step out of your comfort zone and develop new friendships—you won’t regret it!) There is so much biblical wisdom in this episode that will help you to be a better friend and hopefully a more devoted follower of Christ.

Handling Everyday Life While Grieving with Melissa Zaldivar
“We tell the stories of Scripture over and over because they anchor us and remind us of what's true when things get blurry.”
This is a quote from Melissa Zaldivar’s book titled, “What Cannot Be Lost: How Jesus Holds Us Together When Life is Falling Apart.” We loved talking with Melissa on this week’s episode as we discussed grief and loss. In her book, Melissa tells the story of losing her friend Jill to cancer as she weaves together threads of the life of Louisa May Alcott, the author of “Little Women.” It is a beautiful, hopeful, and heavy story of how Jesus can meet us in whatever situation we find ourselves in.
In today’s conversation, we talk about how to rightly handle the Scriptures when faced with loss, how to help others that are in grief, and where hope is found even as grief lingers. You may be experiencing a season of loss or you may be walking with someone who is in tremendous grief. Wherever you find yourself today, be encouraged by the truths of Scripture and the hope found in the gospel. Jesus will hold you together, just as He holds all things together (Colossians 1:17).

Navigating Success and Failure Well w/Katie Davidson
We might try to avoid it but it’s inevitable—we all fail at something at some point. No matter if we are in the workforce, self-employed, at home, or in ministry, we face failure. But we will have moments of success as well, which in some ways can be even more difficult to handle. Navigating both of those with grace can be a challenge in different ways! How can we respond well as believers?
In today’s conversation, Shelby and I invited staff writer Katie Davidson to join us as we talk about how to navigate success and failure. If you struggle to receive success with humility or failure with grace, we encourage you to join us in this conversation. We hope that it will provide you with some practical and Biblical wisdom to rightly navigate these situations in your everyday life. In the good and bad, whether we succeed or fail, we know that we can fix our eyes on God who is good and faithful and wise.

Identity & Roles: Finding Our Worth in Christ, Not in the Titles We Hold
In today's episode, we discuss roles and our identity. It's a topic that listeners have messaged us about but it's also one that feels very relevant to Shelby and myself right now. We want to be faithful in the roles that God has entrusted to us, but we also don't want to find our primary identity in them. We attempt to untangle some of the complexities as we look to our identity in Christ and see what God's Word has to say about who we are as believers.

21:02 - How fulfilling our roles can be an overflow of our identity in Christ

Questions to Consider:
How do you react when success in your role is threatened?
Do you still see your need for God when everything is going well in your roles? Or do you pull away from God because you are being satisfied by your roles?
Does your contentment depend on getting a role that you don't currently have or keeping a role that you do currently have?
Are you able to weather failure and criticism in your roles well or do these things crush you?
Prayer Prompts:
Ask God to help you glorify Him in your current roles.
Thank God for the roles He has given you and thank Him for his goodness and sovereignty in the roles that you don't have.
Ask God to increase your joy and contentment with where He has you right now.
Pray that the Spirit would convict you when you're tempted to place your identity anywhere other than Christ himself.
