Ace became the first Asian American to ever play for The University Connecticut (Unconn) men's basketball team, playing alongside future NBA stars such as Caron Butler and Omeka Okafor. During this conversation, Ace and I spoke about his life growing up in New York City, his love for the game of basketball, what it was like to be the first Asian American to ever play for the UConn Men's basketball team, how he used the same principles and disciplines that helped him find success on the court and applied it to his professional career, what keeps him motivated and how his purpose has changed throughout the years. I enjoyed this conversation with Ace, and I'm sure you guys will too. What's going on, guys! For today's episode, I got none other than an up-and-coming boxer, Brandun Lee from La Quinta, California joining me for a spotlight episode. Brandun is a 21-year-old professional boxer who’s been receiving a lot of attention recently, especially within the Asian American community. What makes him special is the fact that not only is he having an impressive start to his pro boxing career, with an undefeated record of 20-0 and 18 knockouts, but he’s doing it with a lot of swagger and confidence. On top of that, he’s a good kid. He has the potential to not only become a world champion by the end of next year but a huge role model as well. During this conversation, Brandun and I talked about how he got into boxing, his experience being half-Korean and half-Mexican and how it plays into his boxing career, what it means to represent Asian Americans in the world of boxing, what keeps him motivated, how he’s going to potentially deal with the lifestyle that comes with becoming a champion and where he envisions he’ll be in the next 5 years. What makes his story unique is that before he made it to the pros, Nelson was just an average basketball player throughout high school and didn't even compete at the collegiate level.So how exactly did he do it? Well, during this conversation, Nelson and I spoke about how he got into basketball, the first time he dunked, deciding while in college to play professionally, how he dealt with the naysayers.
