How did Leon Marchand split 41.1 after 3:34.4 400 IM?! 😮
How did Arizona State's Leon Marchand win the 400 IM (3:34.4!) and then split 41.1 on the back of the 4x100 Medley Relay?!?
Coach David Marsh with some analysis after watching Leon clean up at Pac-12's:
"Coaches and young kids need to understand this....it's not a joke when we say that underwater kicking is the 2nd fastest way to swim. It may be the first fastest if you're kicking as fast as him!"
"The 400 IM, I got that he's staying underwater for about a minute and 40 seconds."
"He's traveling fast while staying under water."
"...he is a FLOW guy...has an amazing relationship with the water..."
"...all I can tell you is that a lot of it is underwater..."

#235 Lara Jackson from walk-on to NCAA Champion, American Record holder
Lara Jackson is in her first year as an Assistant Swimming Coach at the University of Arizona, where she was a 9x NCAA Champion and 14x All-American. She won back-to-back NCAA titles in the 50 Freestyle (2008, 2009) lowering the NCAA record down to 21.27. Lara began her career as a walk on.
In 2008, she went on to set the American Record in the 50 LCM Freestyle (24.50) in Prelims at her first Olympic Trials. Swimming right next to, and beating, Dara Torres. In Finals, she finished 3rd behind Dara and Jessica Hardy.
Hardy subsequently went on to test positive for a banned substance that was later proved to be a case of contamination. Nevertheless, she was not allowed to compete at the Olympics but Team USA did not take Lara.

Dive Inside LIVE: Fina, ISL, NCAA, TYR Pro Swim Series
Brett, Sonny, and Nate talk about swimming.
FINA has cancelled World Jrs in Kazan. Also, they took back the award they gave Putin back in 2014. Canada, Australia, and Scandinavia have all backed out of any meet in Belarus or Russia. Russian swimmers are allowed to compete but not under the Russian flag.
The International Swimmers Alliance (ISA) has called for Fina & the ISL to meet to discuss a global swimming calendar because the current situation is unsustainable. Aly Tetzloff went off on the ISL on Instagram after saying they will not be able to make payments due to the war in Ukraine. April 3rd marks the beginning of Free Agency/Rookies and the 2nd ISL Draft will be held on April 23, 2022.
Pac 12's for the Men start today. Lia Thomas has been cleared to swim at Women's NCAA's and is opting to do the 100 Free instead of the 1650. Minnesota's Max McHugh is swimming coming back for a 5th year. Regan Smith trying to pull off a Brendan Burns at NCAA's choosing the 2 Back/2 Fly crazy person double. Women's NCAA's are March 16-19 and the Men are the 23-26 both in Atlanta. NCAA Relays are Timed Finals.
