Scaling B2B Stablecoin Payments: SAP’s Digital Currency Hub
How SAP's Digital Currency Hub brings stablecoins into everyday enterprise software
In this episode of Bitcoin, Fiat & Rock’n’Roll, we explore how SAP’s Digital Currency Hub (DCH) is bridging the gap between enterprise software and stablecoins. Michael Blaschke, Bernhard Schweizer (SAP), and Rebecca Carvatt (EY) explain how enterprises handle stablecoin payments without leaving their familiar ERP environment.
We explore the technical architecture that allows for 24/7, instant, global payments at low fees, supporting major stablecoins like USDC and PYUSD across multiple blockchain networks. The conversation includes a detailed look at PayPal’s historic first business payment using PYUSD to pay EY in fall 2024, marking a significant milestone in enterprise stablecoin adoption.
Our guests break down the practical aspects of implementation, from wallet management and currency conversion to compliance considerations and accounting standards. They share insights on why major corporations are embracing this technology now, particularly for cross-border payments and high-inflation corridors. The episode offers valuable guidance for corporate treasurers and finance leaders preparing for the future of payments, including specific action items for getting started with stablecoin payments in an enterprise context.
The discussion concludes with a forward-looking perspective on the evolution of enterprise payments, including programmable finance, machine-to-machine transactions, and the growing ecosystem of companies adopting digital currency solutions for business payments. Listeners will come away with a clear understanding of how traditional finance is being transformed by the merger of enterprise software and digital currencies.

Downsides of a Bitcoin Reserve (with ECB Advisor Dr. Jürgen Schaaf)
We discuss the potential drawbacks of Bitcoin Reserves with European Central Bank advisor Jürgen Schaaf
Strategic Bitcoin Reserves remain one of the most intensely debated topics in the digital currency landscape. Just a few days back, US President Trump has signed an Executive Order that states the establishment of both a Bitcoin Reserve and a broader Digital Asset Stockpile in the US. In this new episode of the Bitcoin, Fiat & Rock’n’Roll (BFRR) podcast, host Jonas Gross explores the topic of Bitcoin Reserves with Dr. Jürgen Schaaf, advisor to the Senior Management at the European Central Bank (ECB). Following a previous episode that examined the pro-Bitcoin Reserve perspective, this conversation dives deep into the counterarguments.
Dr. Schaaf points to Bitcoin's fundamental limitations. He argues that Bitcoin mainly failed to deliver on its original promise as a payment system, points to its extreme volatility as a barrier to mainstream adoption and questions its utility. The discussion distinguishes between three distinct reserve models that are often conflated in public discourse: strategic reserves, foreign exchange reserves, and sovereign wealth funds. Dr. Schaaf provides an analysis of whether from his perspective any of these three frameworks presents a legitimate economic case for institutions holding Bitcoin —with conclusions that may surprise listeners.
After two comprehensive episodes on Bitcoin reserves—examining both the supportive and critical viewpoints—stay tuned for an upcoming episode where the BFRR team will thoughtfully reflect on these discussions and share their own perspective on this both controversial and timely topic.

Why the FDP demands a Bitcoin Reserve | German
We explore why the FDP has included the Bitcoin reserve initiative in their election program
The concept of a "strategic Bitcoin reserve" is gaining increasing international significance. What Donald Trump brought up in the US election campaign is now being seriously considered by a growing number of nations - including Brazil, Japan, Russia, and China alongside the US. The Czech Central Bank recently marked a milestone by becoming the first of its kind to officially announce plans to evaluate Bitcoin investments.
Against this backdrop, the new episode of Bitcoin, Fiat & Rock'n'Roll focuses on whether and how nations and central banks should use Bitcoin as a strategic reserve - a topic now also taken up by the FDP in the current German federal election campaign. Co-hosts Jonas Gross and Michael Blaschke discuss this with FDP member of parliament Frank Schäffler, who champions Bitcoin, crypto, and digital asset topics in the Bundestag like few others.
How does the FDP envision a Bitcoin reserve? The specific proposal suggests that the German Bundesbank and the European Central Bank (ECB) should diversify their currency reserves through Bitcoin. The Bundesbank's current gold reserves of 140 billion euros serve as a reference point. Schäffler emphasizes that this is a political appeal, as central banks remain independent in their investment decisions. Implementation would occur through active, systematic new acquisitions. Should the German state also buy Bitcoin according to the FDP's vision? You'll find out in the episode.
What are the challenges? Schäffler sees the biggest challenges in convincing the "establishment" and central banks. While ECB President Lagarde currently rejects Bitcoin investments, Schäffler considers it progress that the topic is being discussed at this level at all. He points to the positive developments of recent years: from the first tax recognition in 2013 to today's broad social acceptance of Bitcoin. What other challenges exist? You'll find out in the episode.
Enjoy the Episode!

Making Bitcoin accessible (with Relai CEO Julian Liniger)
Julian’s journey to becoming one of the most successful Bitcoin entrepreneurs in Europe
In this episode of Bitcoin, Fiat & Rock'n'Roll (BFRR), we speak with Julian Liniger, CEO and co-founder of Relai, about his mission to make Bitcoin accessible to everyone. Julian, a young Swiss entrepreneur, launched Relai in 2020 with the goal of simplifying Bitcoin investments.
By 2025, Relai has grown into one of Europe’s leading Bitcoin companies, serving approximately 140,000 clients who purchased nearly 13,000 BTC in 2024 alone. In December, the company successfully closed a $12 million funding round led by Ego Death Capital, a renowned Bitcoin-focused venture capital firm backed by prominent figures like Jeff Booth and Lyn Alden.
During the episode, Julian provides an in-depth and candid look at his journey, as well as the current state of Relai’s business. He discusses key topics such as valuation, revenues, and the company’s newly launched services: Relai Private, tailored for high-net-worth individuals, and Relai Business, designed to help small and medium enterprises acquire Bitcoin.
Currently operating across several European countries, Relai is poised for further growth. The company is planning a broader European expansion and has applied for a Crypto Asset Service Provider license under the Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation (MiCA). Expect to hear even more from them in the near future.

Zero-knowledge proofs: The future of privacy?
An Introduction to zero-knowledge proofs: their potential, applications, and challenges
In this episode of 'Bitcoin, Fiat & Rock'n'Roll' (BFRR), we explore zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs), a technological innovation helping to protect privacy in our increasingly digital world. Co-host Jonas Gross discusses with Johannes Sedlmeir, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Luxembourg, how ZKPs work, their relevance, applications, and potential. They address key terminology and clarify common misconceptions.
Johannes illustrates ZKPs through a simple cave analogy: Imagine being trapped in a cave with two exits and a door in the middle. As the prover, you want to demonstrate to a verifier that you can open the door by exiting on either side - without revealing how. The verifier requests you exit on different sides repeatedly. After multiple successful attempts, the verifier becomes convinced you possess the secret without ever seeing it. Johannes extends this explanation with practical examples for different audiences – e.g., adults and engineers.
ZKPs have applications across numerous privacy-critical domains, including payments and identity, e.g., identification, authorization, and authentication. Recent technological advances have made many use cases practical today, while others face ongoing challenges. Which applications show the most promise and could reach billion-dollar market potential?
The episode concludes with Jonas and Johannes discussing when ZKPs might become mainstream technology, operating quietly behind most digital processes. Tune in to hear their insights.
