Dr Bronwyn King is an Australian oncologist and in 2010 founded and became CEO of Tobacco Free Portfolios, a not-for-profit organisation that collaborates with the world’s largest financial organisations to drive global change towards tobacco-free finance. In 2017 Bronwyn was made the Inaugural Distinguished Fellow in a joint initiative between Kings' College London and the University of Melbourne. She also became a “Diplomat of the Global Charter” of the World Federation of Public Health Associations and was made a VicHealth Champion. In 2019 she was awarded an Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to community health and named 2019 Melburnian of the Year. #119 Aortic Stenosis with Professor David Muller Interventional Cardiologist
Professor David Muller is an interventional cardiologist at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney with a special interest in structural heart disease, complex coronary stenting, peripheral vascular intervention, valvular heart disease and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), and he performs research at the University of New South Wales. Today we are discussing aortic stenosis, and I do a ~15 minute introduction on the history of surgery - because it is quite amazing how far we have come! Dr Cathy Kezelman AM is a medical practitioner, GP, mental health consumer advocate and President of the Blue Knot Foundation National Centre of Excellence for Complex Trauma. She is also the past director of the Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC). In 2015 she was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her work in this important area. She is an author of many publications in research but also the author of a memoir chronicling her journey of recovery from child sexual abuse: Innocence Revisited. #115 Fasting as Medicine with Professor Valter Longo
Dr Valter Longo is the Edna M. Jones Professor of Gerontology and Biological Sciences and Director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California –Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, Los Angeles, one of the leading centres for research on ageing and age-related disease. Dr Longo is also the Director of the Longevity and Cancer Program at the IFOM Institute of Molecular Oncology in Milan, Italy. The Longo laboratory published key findings on a 5-day periodic dietary intervention called Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD), and showed in randomized clinical trials that FMD reduces the risk factors and markers associated with ageing and diseases. Dr Longo’s most recent studies focus on the use of FMD interventions to activate stem cell-based regeneration to promote longevity.
