Finding Stillness in the Storm
How do you actually get to calm and stillness despite all the chaos we go through day-to-day? The thing about stillness that is misunderstood is that what we're actually not doing is quieting down the chaos. We're not quieting down our minds. We're not eliminating all the distractions and the threats that are going on around us. Instead, we're doing the opposite. What we're actually saying is, "I can handle it. I am confident in the moment right where I am." We're no longer fighting the threats, and we're comfortable and accepting of where we are. To me, that is ultimate stillness.

Patrick Murphy: Building A Championship Culture
In today's world of collegiate athletics, few can claim to have been at a program since the beginning. Not many can say they were there at the origin of a program, having been present from the very inception to where it stands today. And certainly nobody can claim to have brought a program further, and in shorter time, than Alabama head softball coach Patrick Murphy, entering his 22nd season at the helm of the Crimson Tide. From a humble start to a national championship, Murphy has taken Alabama to the top of the college softball world. Beginning with his days as an assistant in the very first years of the Alabama softball program, Murphy has emerged as the face of a team that has grown under his leadership to become one of the most consistently successful programs in the nation. The accomplishments are there for everyone to see. A 2012 National Championship, 11 Women's College World Series berths, five SEC regular season titles, five SEC Tournament titles and 18-straight NCAA Tournament bids are only a few of the team honors that Murphy has brought to Tuscaloosa during his tenure. The individual honors are equally as impressive. Tide players have earned All-America honors 98 times under Murphy's watch. He has tutored 94 All-SEC performers and 88 NFCA All-Region honorees. His teams have been just as successful in the classroom, with 21 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and 198 SEC All-Academic selections.

Developing The Gratitude Habit
Thanksgiving is a few short days away. Your stress levels are high because of all you do for work or school. Then, you throw in the hectic holiday season with extended family visiting, traveling, shopping, etc. It's the perfect time to develop the habit and attitude of gratitude. An attitude of gratitude will transform relationships, work environment, family life, and your overall satisfaction in your life. It's not a difficult achievement. Like anything else worthwhile, it needs to become a habit. The good news is that you don't have to buy special equipment, experience any discomfort, or physical exertion to achieve an attitude of gratitude.

The Role of Coaching in Player Development
As a coach or leader of a program/organization when coaching today's generation of athletes - How can you get the most out of these young people? What buttons can you press and what buttons can you not press in order to motivate? The question I ask every coach is, "How are your players going to view you five years from now?" Are they going to say that coach so-and-so taught me about who I am, put me in challenging environments to learn more about myself, or put me through trials and tribulations, but gave me a safety net to do it. Or, are you going to allow this generation to blame you? Because when they struggled, you didn't have a solution for them. Ultimately, at the end of the day, your job is to develop your players so that they look back and go, "Yeah, I'm a better person and player because that guy was my coach."
