Changing Workforce Leadership and Loyalty Podcast #222
The average worker stays 4.4 years. Millennials expect to stay 1.4 years. You have to train people and if the cost of training is about 1.6 years worth of salary of the employee. So a huge challenge exists in today's work place. There will always be a need for training. But if you are training the third employee for that job in 3 years, it's hard to justify. Yet with every new employee starts off slowly. Their productivity increases with experience. This all gets magnified with C Suite executives as the costs rise dramatically. Millennials leave their company when they don't see opportunities for growth. When it comes to Authentic Leadership, Are We Fooling Ourselves? Unless you've been living under a rock for the last five or so years, you know that being an authentic leader is no longer a preference, it's a requirement! However, if you and I were to do a walk around survey and ask people, (Leaders) if they are authentic, what do you think they would say? You guessed it; they would likely say "of course!" (and probably look at us like we were idiots for even asking) So, just stop for a minute and ask yourself, what you think/believe being authentic means. Listen as Dov Baron shares how to build loyalty, not break it down. Leadership and Family Structure Podcast 220
Leadership and Families - they tend to be the same thing. Great parents can't do it alone. Neither can great leaders. It is said that the old guard don't change their beliefs, we just have to wait for them to die. Many in leadership today complain about these Millennial's "They don't have our work ethic," "they're all entitled" and "they think they're going to change the world" Let's just stop for a moment and do a Reality Check: As weird and different as the Millennial generation may seem, let's not forget that the old guard of today (the baby boomers) were at one time "hippies" who weren't going to "work for the man". The generation before them said pretty much the same thing: "They don't have our work ethic" "they're all entitled" and "they think they're going to change the world" Some of todays leaders are children of those hippies. They said they would fight authority, consumerism and corrupt governments. They spiked their hair wore studs and safety pins and went punk (Gen X'ers) It all makes me wonder if Gen Y (Millennials) will have similar complaints about generation Z in twenty year. Like I said: It's all Different Except Where It's The Same. - See more at: http://dovbaron.com/2014/05/30/different_same/#sthash.Se03rd3Y.dpuf learn more at www.fmloyalty.com Get bonus content on Patreon Learn more about your ad choices. Step Up and Be a Magnificent Leader! The Full Monty Episode 216
What is a leader? How can they inspire their followers? Be at the edge without falling off. If you get knocked down, can you get back up? Great leaders need to extend themselves beyond where they are. They inspire their followers to be leaders themselves. What are you hiding from? Recently some of my peers and myself have been having conversations about privacy or the lack of it when to posting on FaceBook, (even in a group). We have come to a simple conclusion, one that was addressed in a recent New York Times article: Privacy is Dead! Bottom line, whether we like it or not we are all out there, (just google your name) I have thought long and hard about this, (I was anti social media at first too). My conclusion is this: We live in a society that is polar in many ways. On one side we have the Jerry Springer kind of trailer trash self exposure, and on the other there is the shut down, repressed, fake a smile and pretend everything is "fine" group. In truth we are still free to choose to NOT live at either end of that spectrum. What I have come to love about social media is that if we use it well and with discernment it can call us to actually stand in our truth. The Full Monty Story - Episode 215
What stories galvenize your team? What creates deep vulnerability? Does it give the listeners a lump in their throat? It's a polarizing story. Those that resonate with your story are bond tighter to your vision. Those that don't are better off somewhere else. I have seen many people reach goals that they once thought were impossible and yet, instead of the long lasting delight they expected, at best they experience momentary celebration and at worse they encounter depression, despair and a genuine lost of meaning and purpose. "It" is rarely the answer Now before I go on, don't for a moment think that I am against setting and achieving goals. Certainly, go ahead and set goals for yourself, but rather than pushing to achieve them, be drawn through curiosity to discover them.Did you see the difference? One way uses force and self-will to accomplish a goal; the other allows the path to the goal to unfold naturally through the use of curiosity. Sadly, as the ego-mind develops, we throw out curiosity in favor of certainty. Unfortunately being right becomes more important than discovering. Here's how this process stumps us: Assuming, and then looking for evidence that we were correct in our assumptions, blinds us to the answers and insights that lie just outside our frame of reference. As someone who is committed to to being/becoming a Full Monty Leader; I challenge you right here, right now to decide to become curious about everything, (particularly about the things you are sure you are most certain of). The ability to do this is an advanced sign of emotional intelligence with significant benefits to you as a leader and as a human being. Get bonus content on Patreon Learn more about your ad choices. What's Your Story? Episode 214
Stories are not stagnant. They are ever-changing. They evolve over the years. Dov talks about the evolutions of stories at Apple and Microsoft. When you master how to tell stories about your company, you'll discover an interesting fact: Stories are told and retold. One of the less obvious characteristics of being a great leader is "empathy". Empathy must not to be confused with sympathy. Sympathy enables people being stuck. One the other hand, empathy is a vital element of being the most effective Full Monty Leader possible. Empathy, in it's simplest form, is the ability to proverbially walk a mile in someone else's moccasins. However, there is a deeper understanding and value to empathy when applied to leadership and intelligence. A leader without true empathy is very likely to have rigid opinions, beliefs and judgments. E.G: there's only one-way to see/do "this". Get bonus content on Patreon Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Stories in the Corporate World - Loyalty and Leadership Development Podcast #213
The importance of stories to your corporate culture. The elements of a compelling story revealed. What stories that imspire your listeners with a deep sense of what you are about. Powerful stories are remembered. What is your company's creation story? What does it take to be a successful leader in today's changing business landscape? What does it take to not only keep your top talent but have them fight to be part of your organization? The fact is everything you've been told about leadership over the past 30 years no longer applies. The world has changed and so has everything we know about becoming—and remaining—an effective leader. Business and Leadership "As Usual" is a dead end! I've been working with leaders around the world and have had the opportunity to witness these changes first hand. I've seen what works and more importantly, I've seen what no longer works. Over and over I've seen that the single most vital aspect to successful leadership is developing loyalty from those you work with. Not just loyalty, but FIERCE LOYALTY! The kind of loyalty that means your top talent, your star players would stand up and fight for your organization because it represents something far greater than a job or even a career to them. So the question becomes: how do you develop that kind of loyalty? My main intention in writing my upcoming book is to help you do just that in your organization Get bonus content on Patreon Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
